BEAUMONT, Texas — Descendants of Agatha Babino, a formerly enslaved woman whose story was documented in the 1930s, gathered Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church to honor their ancestor's legacy.

The family members attended the public event that extended the "Agatha Babino: A Narrative of the Formerly Enslaved" exhibition currently on display at the John Jay French Museum through October 3.

The program was organized by executive director and founder of the Museum of Undertold Texas History in Houston, Dionne Babineaux in partnership with the Beaumont Heritage Society and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Marie Lewis, Agatha Babino's great-great granddaughter, traveled to Beaumont following a recent family reunion that drew hundreds of relatives.
