ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Keeping the Trump administration's promise to take away funding from so-called "sanctuary cities," the U.S. Department of Transportation is revoking an $11.5 million grant needed to complete the Albuquerque Rail Trail, a seven-mile pedestrian-and-bicycle loop in the heart of New Mexico's largest city.

According to the USDOT, the reason for removing the funding is that it will be used for "car-focused" projects instead.

Mayor Tim Keller said he will fight to have that decision reversed.

"We are going to stand up for Albuquerque and prevent the Trump administration from pulling money from a project the people of Albuquerque want," Keller said. "We'll see you in court."

The city was awarded the USDOT Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability grant in 2022
