President Donald Trump said Friday that he will send National Guard troops to Memphis to help fight crime, the latest move by the president to intervene in cities where he says federal assistance is needed for public safety.

Trump has deployed the National Guard in Washington, D.C., and in Los Angeles and has talked about doing so in other cities, including Chicago and Baltimore.

What about in Alabama, particularly in Birmingham and Montgomery, two cities where violent crime has been a dominant issue? Any chance they are on the president’s list?

“Birmingham and Montgomery are not cities the president is currently targeting,“ Gina Maiola, communications director for Gov. Kay Ivey, said in an email Friday.
