The Milwaukee Brewers became the first team to clinch a berth in the Major League Baseball playoffs on Saturday, and they did it before even walking onto the field.

The Brewers, who own MLB’s best record at 90-58, secured no worse than a wildcard post-season spot when the New York Mets lost 3-2 to the visiting Texas Rangers on Saturday.

Wyatt Langford’s ninth-inning single to centerfield drove in Dustin Harris with the deciding run for Texas, dropping the Mets to 76-73 and ensuring they will finish behind Milwaukee this season.

The Brewers, who lead the National League Central division by six games over the Chicago Cubs ahead of a Saturday contest in St. Louis, are looking at bigger prizes, however.
