CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor released its long-awaited special report Friday on the city of Charlotte’s $305,000 settlement with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings, confirming the amount, breaking down the funding sources, and recommending major transparency improvements for future city actions.
The report follows months of scrutiny over the city council’s closed-door handling of the payout, which was approved this spring after tensions between Jennings and then-council member Tariq Bokhari. Jennings alleged his rights were violated and later announced his plan to retire on Jan. 1, 2026.
According to State Auditor Dave Boliek’s office , $280,000 of the payout came from Charlotte’s General Fund and $25,000 from the city’s Risk Manage
