EAST LANSING — Michigan State football has opened 3-0 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2006-2007.
Beyond that, the Spartans scored 40 points in back-to-back games for the first time since 2017.
And yet, Michigan State knows that its performance in a 41-24 victory against FCS Youngstown State wasn’t quite where it hoped to be.
“3-0, we’ll obviously take that. It’s kind of what I told the team, though, we got more to us,” coach Jonathan Smith said. “Credit to Youngstown State, I thought some schematics gave a couple issues especially on defense.”
