HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — An annual celebration of LGBTQIA+ culture returned to Church Street in Hartford on Saturday.

Hartford Pride has been happening in the city since the early 1980s.

Organizers said they wanted to broaden the event this year, at a time when the queer community is often faced with hostile rhetoric.

"We have some local vendors, we have a lot of community nonprofits and organizations here giving out resources and some free goodies," Brayden Ransom, community impact manager at the Health Collective said. "We also will have performances, some speaking opportunities. And we have a drag castle for story hour, so there will be a drag queen reading stories off throughout the event."

This year's event featured mental health, social support and other resources for attendees.
