SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — South Haven city staff, councilmembers and consultants started the groundwork to envision what a potential lifeguard program would look like and cost for the lakeshore community during a workshop meeting Saturday.

Since the early 2000s, the beaches have been without lifeguards. Right now, a flag system warns beachgoers of water conditions, beach safety staff roam the parks and a life-saving drone sits in a housing along Lake Michigan.

City Manager Kate Hosier said the meeting built the foundation for the work ahead with consulting firm Double Hull Solutions.
