Los Alamos National Laboratory is preparing to vent four tritium containers that have been in storage for 20 years, raising concerns among community members about the potential impact.
Tritium is described as a radioactive gas and the most radioactive isotope of hydrogen. David Torney, a former lab employee who retired in 2006, expressed his concerns about the venting. "I think there might be other ways to do this that are safer, you know, sort of health-wise," Torney said.
