When Brian Kelly was asked about the targeting penalty that disqualified star linebacker Whit Weeks from LSU's 20-10 win over Florida on Saturday, he let out an exasperated sigh.

Kelly understands why officials made the call, he said. He just wishes that rules would give defenders more leeway when one of their tackles meets the criteria for targeting, which carries an automatic ejection.

"I just have a hard time with this one," Kelly said.

On Florida's first drive, Weeks was trying to make a tackle when he lowered the crown of his helmet and contacted the face mask of receiver Vernell Brown. After a video review, officials confirmed the targeting call they made on the field and disqualified Weeks, who watched the rest of the game from the sideline.
