Area youths could be seen making the most of school field trips to the National Championship Air Races and Air Show (NCAR) at the Roswell Air Center for the first time.

The connection between education and NCAR is obvious. Knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics is necessary for humans to travel by aircraft.

The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) produces the air races, which relocated to Roswell this year after about 60 years of racing at the Reno-Stead Airport in northern Nevada. Insurance costs to hold the event grew as the space between the airport and other types of development shrunk.

Roswell Air Center is pretty big for the nearly 63,700 residents living in all of Chaves County, with more than 47,000 of those being in Roswell alone. The airport exceeds 5,000
