When JJ Withers joined the North Tamworth Bears in the 70s, he had no way of knowing the legacy he would leave behind.
The Manilla lad became quickly became known as a fierce competitor on the field and a devoted contributor off it.
This is why the Bears were devastated by his untimely passing in a car crash only a few years after he'd joined. And, in honour of his memory, North Tamworth coined the JJ Withers Club Champion award.
On Friday night, James Cooper and Mitch Sheridan were jointly-named winners of the accolade.
But, Bears president Scott Blanch announced to the audience, they would also be the last to hoist the trophy.
