Sullivan Walter, 56, sat at a conference table in the small converted house that now functions as Innocence & Justice Louisiana, formerly known as Innocent Project New Orleans.

He choked back tears when he recalled the moment he read a letter from Richard Davis, legal director at Innocence & Justice Louisiana. The letter stated their belief in Walter's innocence and the organization's commitment to get him released from prison.

After serving 36 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Walter came home free in 2022 — and he credits Davis' and Innocence & Justice Louisiana's work for getting him out.
