1925: One of the most distinguished visitors the Canyon has ever entertained is Vice President Charles Dawes, who, with his party, arrived Tuesday morning from Los Angeles and spent the day here. They were met at the train and welcomed by the American Legion and by the auxiliary, and escorted to the rim of the Canyon, where photographs were taken with the colors, after which Park Superintendent Eaken took the vice president for a rim drive in a special car driven by Legionnaire James English. After lunch, Superintendent Eaken accompanied Mr. Dawes to Grandview, where the afternoon hours were spent on the various trails and points in that vicinity.
