Iowa has seen a decline in traffic fatalities so far this year, with 32 fewer deaths on state roadways compared to the same date in 2024.
Iowa DOT Director Scott Marler shared the update during this week’s Transportation Commission meeting. “We’re on a good trajectory, but I think you know us at the Department well enough to know we’re never satisfied with that,” Marler said.
As of September 11, there have been 191 traffic deaths in Iowa. Marler stressed that even with the decline, the goal remains zero fatalities. “One fatality is one too many and until we get to zero, we’re not going to stop. We’re going to continue to push and do the things that are so vital to keeping Iowans safe,” he added.
Marler also noted his recent participation in the Mid America Association of State Transport
