SPRINGFIELD, Wis. -- A pedestrian died Saturday night after an eastbound driver struck them on U.S. Highway 12 near Kickapoo Road in the Town of Springfield, authorities said.

Authorities believe the pedestrian was crossing on the highway when an eastbound driver struck them. The pedestrian did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dane County Medical Examiner.

The medical examiner's office will release the victim's name after the family is notified.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
