HOUSTON (KIAH) — Parts of the Houston community plan to hold a candlelight vigil to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sunday evening.

Local friends of the slain activist are planning to hold the vigil Sunday at 7 p.m. at Discovery Green in downtown Houston as an event to promote “peace and civility.”

The organizer of the event, Jacob Jack Way, founder of Red State Solutions, was a longtime supporter of Kirk and said he had a divine calling to set up the vigil.

“People are hurting and need closure,” Way said in a statement. “This faith-based gathering is meant to honor his legacy and carry it forward. Everything he stood for was rooted in faith. This is a solemn moment of remembrance, not a protest or a rally.”
