Mount Clemens city officials are expected to sign off Monday on the purchase of downtown building that is destined to become home of a new city hall and fire department.

The city commission is scheduled to finalize an agreement to purchase what’s known as the Anton Frankel building at Main Street and Cass Avenue for $1.5 million.

The 0.644 acre-property has housed the former Oakland University satellite location inside the Towne Square office building since 2014.

“Upon approval, the city will initiate the process of selecting an architectural firm to begin the design phase for a modern, functional, and efficient municipal facility that meets the community’s needs now and into the future,” City Manager Gregg Shipman wrote in agenda materials.
