MACON, Ga. — For Andrea Day, the Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration is a homecoming.
"I think the biggest thing is to be in our homeland and just being here where our people were. It's a first homecoming for me, so it's extra special," she said.
Day is one of more than 250 members of the Muscogee Nation who made the journey back to the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park. The event highlights the Muscogee people, who consider the mounds their homeland.
The celebration features crafts, vendors, dancing, and more.
Day, an artist, traveled from Oklahoma to Macon, visiting her ancestral homeland for the first time.
"I hope I get to come back, you know. And just being here, enjoying it, enjoying the day," she said.
