Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil is now revealing the reason behind the band's postponed Las Vegas residency − he suffered a stroke.
In a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Neil said that he had to relearn to walk and that his "whole left side went out," leaving doctors unsure whether he'd be able to perform onstage again.
The band was due to embark on a nearly month-long residency in March, but announced on social media weeks before the first performance they were pushing it back to September because of Neil's "required medical procedure."
Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil opens up about stroke recovery
Neil had a stroke last Christmas and said that while his voice was not affected, the recovery took a mental and physical toll. He worked with therapists and a local football coach for months from his home in Nashville. He's "90-, 95-percent to where I was before," Neil told the Review-Journal.
“I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair,” Neil says. “I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane. Now I don’t need anything. But it’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again.”
USA TODAY has reached out to Neil's representatives for comment.
In an interview with the LA Times published Sept. 11, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx alluded to Neil's health issues but didn't specify it was a stroke.
“You can tell he’s working up the stamina, and a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, man, he’s not kicking ass like he used to,’ but it takes a lot of courage to have a doctor tell you you will probably never go onstage again and to fight through that.", Sixx told the outlet.
Mötley Crüe's Vegas residency to continue
Mötley Crüe's residency kicked off Sept. 12 and continues through Oct 3. In an October 2024 interview with USA TODAY, Sixx promised that the residency would be a blend of "intimacy and ginormity, if that's a word" and said he's excited for fans to see "where this crazy train called Mötley Crüe is heading next."
