The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the whole of the East Midlands over powerful 50mph wind gusts that are expected to cause travel disruption .

Forecasters have released a new yellow weather warning that encompasses the whole region, along with almost all of England, due to strong and gusty winds that are predicted between 8pm on Sunday, September 14 and 6pm on Monday, September 15.

Strong winds will arrive across coastal areas of southwest England and Wales during Sunday evening, then develop more widely inland during Monday morning. Gusts of 45-55 mph are expected widely inland, with Nottingham forecasted to face peak wind gusts of 52mph at 11am on Monday, with gusts of 51mph and 49mph expected at the same time in Derby and Lincoln respectively.
