PAW PAW - The small Morgan County town of Paw Paw lived up to its name Saturday, as residents and visitors crowded into Town Park for the second annual Pawpaw Festival, a celebration of the native fruit that has quickly become a showcase for Appalachian culture, food and community pride.

The daylong festival drew families, gardeners, music lovers and curious travelers, many of whom came to learn more about the pawpaw tree, sometimes called the “custard apple,” which grows in the Potomac River valley. Organizers expanded the program after last year’s debut, adding lectures, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities and additional vendors.
