LAWRENCE — Kansas football is about to embark on its Big 12 Conference slate, with a game Saturday at home against West Virginia.

The Jayhawks (2-1) have been able to spend the past week getting back to basics, and getting healthier, during an open week. They’ve been able to get a head start, however much they chose to do so, on preparing for WVU (2-1). The Mountaineers just earned an overtime victory at home against Pittsburgh.

But while Kansas ’ latest matchup saw it lose on the road in its own rivalry game at Missouri, the Jayhawks are still receiving votes — two — in the latest edition of the US LBM Coaches Poll. KU isn’t knocking on the door of being a top 25 team with a win against West Virginia, but coach Lance Leipold’s squad hasn’t fallen out of the national conversatio
