A plane crash in northern Manitoba on Saturday resulted in the deaths of four passengers from a local First Nation. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the pilot, a 20-year-old man, sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

The crash occurred approximately 40 kilometers south of St. Theresa Point First Nation, near Makepeace Lake. The flight had taken off from St. Theresa Point and was headed to Makepeace Lake when the incident happened.

RCMP in Island Lake received a report of the crash on Saturday evening. In response, they chartered a helicopter to reach the site and called in search-and-rescue personnel from CFB Trenton.

The four passengers who died included two men, aged 53 and 49, and two women, both aged 50. All were from St. Theresa Point First Nation and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have notified the Transportation Safety Board, which has dispatched a team to investigate the crash.
