MINNEAPOLIS -- Diamondbacks infielder Blaze Alexander left Sunday afternoon’s game vs. the Twins in the fourth inning after being hit in the left forearm/elbow area by a Bailey Ober pitch.
Alexander appeared to be in pain after being hit, but stayed in the game to run the bases and eventually scored a run.
However, when the Diamondbacks took the field in the bottom of the fourth, Ildemaro Vargas took his spot at second base.
Alexander has been a key contributor for the Diamondbacks since third baseman Eugenio Suárez was dealt to Seattle at the Trade Deadline. Most of his starts have come at third base, but he has also played second base, as well as center and left field.
There has been no update yet on Alexander’s status.
