CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina man is facing state charges after allegedly making threats and attempting to intimidate a court official.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said 33-year-old Phillip Dean Newberry of Chester was charged with intimidation of a court official on Wednesday after an investigation requested by the Chester County Sheriff's Office.

A warrant states that, between July 7 and Aug. 27, 2025, Newberry sent hundreds of separate emails to one or more officials. Some of the messages allegedly included implied threats. Based on the fact that Newberry previously provided the email address used in the emails, authorities determined that he sent them.
