PORT ROYAL, S.C. (WSAV) — The Beaufort County Spanish Moss Trail has begun the construction of the extension.

Construction for the Spanish Moss Trail began on September 8, with most of the renovations taking place during the daytime. Roadwork on Ribaut Road is being completed during the night between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Work is expected to last roughly six months as the project will include the installation of a pedestrian-activated traffic signal to provide residents safe crossing.

The extension will be from Port Royal's Ribaut Road to Appleton Road.
