The Town of Bassendean has four councillor positions, including the mayor’s, up for grabs in the upcoming October elections.

Five candidates have been announced, with mayor Kath Hamilton, deputy mayor Paul Poliwka and councillor Jennie Carter looking to defend their positions against Hayden Long and Chris Chassels.

Cr Hamilton, who has been mayor for the past four years, said she was passionate about preserving the Town’s “unique character” whilst “striking the right balance to maximise the area’s potential”.

Her future aspirations for the town include enhancing facilities for seniors, youth and clubs, preserving natural areas, reducing red tape for cost-effective services, and expanding cultural and artistic programs.
