VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The video above is from 2019 and features 13News Now meteorologist Evan Stewart explaining how weather conditions can affect a sonic boom.
Residents across the area, particularly in Virginia Beach, are puzzled after a loud boom was heard and felt on Sunday evening, Sept. 14.
The boom happened around 5:30 p.m., some people said. People variously said it felt like an earthquake or like a tree hitting their house. Some people said their windows rattled and pets were scared.
13News Now reached out to military officials as well as Virginia Beach city officials to get answers.
