The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are upon us, with Severance , The Penguin , The Studio and The White Lotus sweeping this year’s nominations , with almost 100 nods between them.

In some respects, this year’s picks were entirely predictable: comedy and drama category stalwarts such as Abbott Elementary , The Bear , Hacks , Only Murders in the Building and The White Lotus were well represented.

But there was also a strong infusion of new blood, including the critically acclaimed Hollywood satire The Studio , the much-beloved vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows , the Star Wars series Andor , Netflix’s much-loved political thriller The Diplomat and the thrilling new medical drama The Pitt .
