CHARLESTON — Hundreds of people trekked up the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge with American flags on Sept. 14 to honor the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk.

The mourners, who dressed for the occasion in red, white and blue clothing, filled a large swath of the bridge’s pedestrian and cyclist sidewalk near the Mount Pleasant side pillar. They bowed their heads together at 7 p.m. as they prayed for the conservative activist who was fatally shot in Utah on Sept. 10.

“We stand at the top of this bridge … to lift our voices in prayer,” they prayed. “(Charlie Kirk) was tragically taken from us through assassination. He died as a martyr.”
