COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - The Colerain Fire Department is battling a fire at the Rumpke Sanitary Landfill, according to a company spokesperson.

Rumpke says they are actively fighting a fire in the trash heaps at their Colerain Township landfill.

The fire is burning on about one to two acres of the landfill, the company says.

The fire is in the household waste section of the landfill, but is very close to the lining that separates the section from tire waste.

According to some witness reports, dark smoke plumes can be seen from over two miles away.

The company says they are working with the Colerain Township, Ross Township and Riley Township Fire Departments to bring the fire under control.
