Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu gave a positive update on a potential return from his calf injury.

Abreu has been on the injured list since Aug. 19 with a calf strain. As he approaches a full month out, the outfielder is closing in on a return to game action.

“I don’t know. Soon. Waiting for the trainers to let me play,” Abreu said . “Maybe next week. I don’t know… I’ve been hitting. I’ve been doing everything. I don’t feel anything when I hit. The progressing of running has been very good.”

With Triple-A Worcester’s season ending Sept. 21, Abreu’s time for a rehab assignment is nearly over. He’s hopeful he will be able to get into games very soon.

Although Abreu is hopeful to return soon, he admits it has been frustrating not being able to play, as he didn’t expect the injury
