Gaming has been getting more expensive, but it can't always be helped. Take the Nintendo Switch 2's $450 price, for example. It's painful, but the math checks out. A $400 price would have roughly matched the $300 price of the Switch when it launched in 2017 (yes, inflation really has been that bad). Add a bump to deal with the impact of tariffs, and $450 checks out.

Nintendo's most frustrating price increases have appeared elsewhere. While $80 games also match inflation, they're seemingly a consequence of the cost of Switch 2 cartridges, which is leading other publishers to stick everything on game-key cards . The biggest sticker shock I've had yet, however, came from the reveal of new amiibo figures in the September Nintendo Direct.
