Nate Bargatze had a plan to keep the speeches at the 77th Emmy Awards on track. The comedian, who was hosting the Emmys for the first time in his career, was looking for a way to keep things short. He came up with a brilliant plan that would keep the award show moving, but something that would also give back in some way.
On September 10, Bargatze was the guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and he laid out his idea. Bargatze would pledge $100,000 of his own money to the Boys and Girls Club of America to start the awards show on Sunday night, and they'd take $1,000 off for every second over 45 seconds the winners went on their speeches.
It might sound harsh, but with 26 categories to get through, time is of the essence. If winners go under 45 seconds, $1,000 is added onto the total, so there's a chance to donate more to the organization dedicated to helping children reach their full potential.
Bargatze reiterated his plan on Sunday night in a hilarious bit that took some of the Hollywood stars by surprise. We'll see how much money gets to the deserving organization by the end of the show.
