A fire in a third floor unit of a West Hartford apartment building was extinguished Sunday evening, fire officials said.

An apartment on the top floor of a three-story multifamily building on Oakwood Avenue in West Hartford is uninhabitable after a blaze broke out on Sunday evening.
Deputy Chief Adam Pacheco said a fire on the top floor of 144 Oakwood Avenue was reported at 5:24 p.m. on Sunday, and while units were en route multiple additional calls came in, indicating that fire and smoke were visible in the rear of the building.
The first unit, Car 4, arrived at 5:28 p.m., and noted that heavy smoke and fire were visible, resulting in the response of additional units as well as mutual aid to address the structure fire.
