Last Week Tonight With John Oliver ‘ s run of Emmy Awards dominance continued Sunday.

The HBO series won its third straight trophy for best scripted variety series at the 2025 Emmys , in a category that has only existed for three years. It beat out NBC’s Saturday Night Live , the only other nominee in the category.

Oliver raced through his acceptance speech for the award, responding to a running bit from host Nate Bargatze during the awards that winners who go over their allotted 45 seconds will cause the amount of a donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to fall. Oliver came in well under that time, thanking his staff, his family and HBO and also slipping in a couple of bleeped-out “fucks” — one of which he directed (jokingly) at Bargatze.
