The deployment of the National Guard to Memphis has sparked concern among local advocacy groups.
“Now more than ever, it’s important for communities to stand together,” said Vice President of MICAH Tyler Foster.
They argue that such a move could have a negative impact on marginalized communities.
“I want residents to understand they’re rights, but also understand the authority that these soldiers are able to come into our space. It’s a show. It’s all about intimidation, and we cannot allow that to fragment us even further,” said Tikeila Rucker, political director of Memphis For All.
Organizations including MICAH, the ACLU of Tennessee, and the Justice and Safety Alliance are urging city officials to set clear guidelines, including where troops could be stationed and
