Wyle, a five-time Emmy nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his turn as Dr. John Carter on NBC’s ER , earned his first nomination in 26 years — and his first as Lead Actor — for portraying Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on the HBO Max medical drama.

His competition included Sterling K. Brown ( Paradise ), Gary Oldman ( Slow Horses ), Pedro Pascal ( The Last of Us ) and Adam Scott ( Severance ), though most awards pundits saw it as essentially a two-man race between Wyle and Scott.
