NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. —

A man was killed after being hit by a Union Pacific train in the North Highlands area on Sunday night, fire officials said.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews responded to the collision in the area of Roseville Road and Walerga Road at 8 p.m.

Crews said they found a man who had been hit by a train and, due to his injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sacramento County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene, but fire officials said Union Pacific Railroad will lead the investigation into the incident.
