Rising trash truck repair and replacement costs, landfill tipping fees and a fluctuating recycling market have been putting a strain on Gilbert’s solid waste and recycling enterprise fund.

And Gilbert residents may find that hitting their pocketbooks next year in the form of higher monthly fees.

In a meeting last week, members of Gilbert’s Public Works Advisory Board and town staff began discussions about the bi-annual rate for two of the town’s four utilities – water, and solid waste and recycling.

Last year, the town assessed its rates for the other two utilities – wastewater and environmental compliance services – resulting in a 95% rate increase in the wastewater rate.
