A 42-year-old man, Charles Khang’a, has died after sustaining severe burns when his house caught fire on September 11 due to petrol stored inside.

Mulanje District Hospital spokesperson, Peter Nasoni, confirmed the death, saying Khang’a suffered extensive burns across his body.

Mulanje Police spokesperson, Innocent Moses, told Times 360 Malawi that the late Khang’a was illegally selling and storing petrol in his house.

According to Moses, investigations show that the fire started while Khang’a was transferring fuel from containers inside the house, which triggered an explosion.

Moses added that Khang’a was rescued from the burning house by passersby and neighbors in Gladson Village, Traditional Authority Njema, Mulanje District, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
