The McDowell Titans volleyball team came into the first week of conference play off a 7-3 non-conference start.

It was quite a turnaround from last season when the team started with 10 losses in their first 11 games on their way to a 5-14 season.

The first week of conference play this fall was a tough one for McDowell High. The Titans drew two of the top teams in the conference out of the gate and dropped both games in closely contested matches.

On Tuesday, the Titans lost a five-set barn burner to South Caldwell (6-3, 1-1). The Spartans needed 34 points in the second set to dispatch the Titans and take a 2-0 lead.
