In a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow would leave the game in the 2nd quarter and not return.
Reports have indicated that Burrow has suffered a turf toe injury with possible torn ligaments, which could keep him out for multiple weeks. Backup quarterback Jake Browning came in to relieve Burrow and got the win, but the Bengals may need to make a move if they want to stay in contention while Burrow heals. Browning has played in 12 NFL games and has thrown for 12 touchdowns with 7 interceptions. Meanwhile, rumors have started to swirl involving Atlanta Falcons' high-paid backup quarterback Kirk Cousins.
The deal could be a tricky one as Cousins is still owed a chunk of money, and any suitor would need to pick up a good bit of his contract. During the summer, the Atlanta Falcons were looking at a trade involving Cousins, and were trying to get around $20 million of what he was owed, but only a couple of teams would come close and offer upwards of $10 million, which Atlanta decided to decline. The thought process involving Cousins during training camp was that Atlanta was content on keeping him until the possibility may arise of a team having a starter go down in the preseason, then pulling the trigger in panic mode for a veteran QB.
It could be something that the Bengals ponder within the next few days, but a deal doesn't look likely in reality.
