The Village of Tinley Park issued a community bulletin early Monday morning, saying police in the south suburbs were searching for five men that may be armed with handguns.

At 6:23 a.m., the Village of Tinley Park Public Safety posted a message to Facebook saying police were assisting Matteson Police near Vollmer Road and Harlem Avenue. According to the post, officials were searching for five men in all black clothing that were "possible armed with handguns."

"Subjects fled westbound on foot after an accident," the post said.

NBC 5's Jenn Schanz warned commuters that a large police presence in the area could create backups and delays for morning rush hour.

The Franklin Police Department also shared Tinley Park's alert, saying there was an "active search."
