WASHINGTON —

President Donald Trump is pressuring NATO allies to stop buying Russian oil , threatening to enact more sanctions on Russia in concert with member countries.

The president is urging NATO allies to do this because he feels the Russia-Ukraine war would end if these countries stopped supporting Russia in this way.

Currently, Turkey, Hungary, and Slovakia buy Russian oil , and others purchase Russian natural gas, which Russia uses to fund its war in Ukraine.

Trump said NATO should also place tariffs of up to 100% on China, as China and India are major Russian oil buyers. He has sanctioned India for that, but not China, and is in negotiations with both countries to lower tariffs.
