PAWTUCKET — Rhode Island FC needed to be more dangerous.
A goal, by any means, would be welcomed by the hosts late in the season. And Noah Fuson turned the corner on the left wing with that intention as he pressured the Indy Eleven backline.
Rhode Island didn’t have the following run for Fuson, but the damage was done. Fuson’s cross, inside the 6-yard box, found its ultimate destination as Indy’s James Musa tucked the possession inside the left post in the 64 th minute for an own goal.
The failed clearance from the Indy center back, and a stout Rhode Island defense, handed the hosts a needed 1-0 triumph in front of an announced attendance of 8,498 on Saturday night. Rhode Island’s 3-point result at home leaps RIFC ahead of Indy for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
