A 66-year-old woman has been hospitalized early Monday after, officials said, she was shot while she was in the bathroom of a rooming house in Philly's Germantown neighborhood.

According to police, the incident happened at about 2:53 a.m. on Monday, when a 66-year-old woman told officers she was in the bathroom on the second-floor apartment of a rooming house located along the 4600 block of Wayne Avenue, when she "heard a gunshot outside the door and immediately felt pain."

Police did not immediately detail how the bullet entered the bathroom.

The woman, officials said, was able to call 9-1-1 and first responders arrived to find her suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
