A local construction company owner has been arrested for fraud and theft.

Charges were filed against Matthew Martin, owner of the Martin Construction Company.

The charges allege that Martin altered checks tendered to him by a client, stealing thousands of dollars.

The client is an 85-year-old woman who contacted authorities after discovering that her bank account had been drained.

She told police that she was asked to leave the payee line on her checks blank because he didn’t have a bank account, and others would cash the checks for him.
