LINCOLN SQUARE — A dead rat and note calling immigrants “vermin” were left on the doorstep of Ald. Andre Vasquez’s (40th) Lincoln Square office Sunday night, police and the alderman said.

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, police were notified of the dead animal and a handwritten note containing “derogatory statements” in front of the 40th Ward office, 5620 N. Western Ave., police and Vasquez’s office said.

The note was taped to the office’s door and referred to undocumented immigrants as vermin, among other things, according to Vasquez’s statement.

“In this current political climate, we take these threats seriously, and are working with the Chicago Police Department to investigate,” Vasquez said in a statement emailed Sunday to neighbors. “In the meantime, the 40th Ward Office will remain open. W
